We’re proud to announce that MyBarkPass, the customer portal for BarkPass, now meets ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance standards. This update is more than just a technical milestone, it’s part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring equal access for all pet owners, regardless of ability.

Why ADA Compliance Matters

ADA compliance in digital platforms ensures that people with disabilities, whether visual, auditory, cognitive, or motor can navigate, understand, and interact with web content just like anyone else. For public-facing services like pet licensing and dog park access, this isn’t just a best practice; it’s a responsibility.

Whether someone is applying for a license, renewing it, uploading vaccination records, or accessing local park passes, these everyday actions must be accessible to every member of the community. Barriers in the digital experience can unintentionally exclude individuals from complying with local pet ordinances or enjoying public amenities that their tax dollars support.

What This Means for BarkPass Users

The updated MyBarkPass portal now includes a wide range of accessibility improvements, including:

  • Keyboard navigability for users who do not use a mouse

  • Improved screen reader compatibility with proper labeling and structure

  • Color contrast and text size adjustments for better visibility

  • Logical page layouts that aid users with cognitive disabilities

  • Error identification and suggestions to guide users through form fields and submissions

These updates meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines, the widely accepted standard for digital ADA compliance.

Public Services Must Be Public for Everyone

At BarkPass, we believe that technology should never be a barrier to civic participation. Pet licensing isn’t just a private transaction, it’s part of a broader public safety and animal welfare system. Similarly, access to community dog parks supports public health, community building, and positive pet ownership. Making these services fully accessible is not only a legal obligation for municipalities and it’s the right thing to do.

As more public services move online, ADA compliance isn’t optional, it’s essential. We’re proud to help cities and counties meet that standard with tools that are mobile-first, user-friendly, and inclusive by design.
